It's not the greatest sci-fi horror movie ever or anything (that honour belongs to Alien and Event Horizon as far as i'm concerned), but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I'd say it's the second best film adaption of a video game after Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
If you're an FPS game freak, there's lots of game references in the movie to amuse you all the way to the end, like that Dr. Carmack in-joke (an obvious reference to John Carmack) or the floating BFG like the ones found in the game. The assault rifle first person cam is also used effectively and creatively at one point in the movie as a homage to the classic PC game.
There's enough gore, ample screaming (excellently done by the lovely Rosamund Pike) and lots of zombies. What more can you ask from a movie adaption of a violent videogame without a plot. i'd say the filmakers did they best they could, and suceeded. |
