I didn't have really great expectations when I went to see this film (let's face it, the last few animation films put out by DW and Aardman have not been the best); I was pleasantly surprised with Flushed Away. This film appeals to kids and adults alike. The film tells the story of Roddy, a spoiled pet rat who lives in the lap of luxury with a very wealthy human family. However, Roddy is extremely lonely with only his owner's (a little girl) dolls and toys to play with. The story starts off when Roddy's human family goes off on holiday and leaves Roddy alone. The first night, Roddy is awakened by an intruder: a fat, sloppy sewer rat. Roddy tries to flush the creature down the toilet by telling him that the toilet is a hot tub; the sewer rat is on to Roddy's game and ends up flushing Roddy down the toilet. Roddy ends up in a virtual underground world inhabited by sewer rats and other creatures. The movie really takes off when Roddy meets a slew of interesting and funny characters: Rita, a couple of rat thugs, The Toad and Le Frog. Ultimately, Rita tries to help Roddy get back to his lush lonely life. I don't want to give too much more away. Go see this movie - it's great! |
