It's a laugh to read the critics review, especially that if the idiot from the New York Post. This movie is a martial arts movie. It is an action movie. If you want character development and story appeal, go watch Sideways, Titanic or Message in a Bottle!
Yes. The plot is naive. Laughable even. But then most American action movies have these same values. Did anyone watch the flops...Tomb Raider, Daredavil or Gangs of New York even? Ong Bak is a showcase of some of the most breathtaking martial arts moves in a long time. The stunts are real. The men taking the blows get hurt. The stunts took 4 years to work out and execute. Compare that to the martial arts wannabees working for Hollywood! Their claim: "No stunt double! No computer graphics! No strings attached" are real!
Yeah! These difficult Muay Thai moves make even the best of martial arts practitioner turn green. Even Jet Li publicly admitted that Tony Ja is a sensation. And Jackie Chan wants to do Drunken Master 3 with him.
I'd agree that the movie could use a better cast, better story, better character development... but then we'd need another 3 hours for that huh? And I guess perhaps they should edit out all the death-defying actions to keep it short eh?
If you're gonna criticize the movie Ong Bak, I'd suggest you at least do your homework. Come on! Get off your intellectual high horse once in a while and enjoy a good rush! |
