Honest review from a conservative

What can I say about this movie that hasn't already been said? It seems to have divided reviewers by conservative/liberal lines as does everything nowadays. But I really believe the film is more than that. As a Philosophy major in college, I guess I am a little biased by liking the power of ideas, which this movie emphasizes.
As a "right-winger", I think it is important to remember the ideas that made this country great, including free-speech. I see very many people trashing this movie as liberal propaganda, and all its saying is to guard your freedom, lest you turn your country into a totalitarian state by giving up your civil rights slowly. Now, having voted for bush twice, I have to say that there are things I don't agree with him on, and that's OK. I'm not Liberal. I don't have to Lock-Step with my party. I can question. And honestly, I do believe if we continue on our current course, something like the goverment in this movie will occur. But we're still free now. Go see this movie to appreciate why and let it be a warning.
Does it glorify revolution? In a way. I don't hear anyone pointing out how "wrong" it was to revolt against Britain. Why? V says that a goverment should be afraid of its people. In a democracy, that should always be the case. I hoped this shed a little light on the politics of this film and not have people automatically dub it liberal. Honestly, haven't we had enough of Conservative/Liberal? If it's not one, its the other. What about some moderation? |
