The main reason for giving the movie an A grade is the film noir atmosphere it manages to build without losing its comedic side.
For me, almost everything in this movie worked. The comic moments, even if not subtle and some of them a little bizarre, made me really laugh, the dialogue was witty ans the self-narrative reminded me of the Chandler's characters.
The performances of Robert Downey jr as a petty thief, soon-to-be actor, and Val Kilmer as a gay private eye (two thumbs up) involved in a mystery murder were solid and added a lot to the movie's magic.
I think I'll enjoy seeing it a second time :). |
