I chose this not knowing what else to see that night and was rewarded with one of the better films I have had the pleasure of seeing in some time. The first 10 minutes tried a little too hard to be clever but, it improved greatly thereafter. In my opinion, Val Kilmer gave his greatest performance since being Doc in Tombstone. Robert Downey Jr. was in great form as well, making a hapless loser (though many of us could relate to him if we were truly honest with ourselves) into the hero we ultimately came to cheer for. The twists were many, confusing at times, (although made clear at some point) and unreal but, if I want something to mimick real life I will go to a documentary. I laughed very hard many times in this movie as did those around me and we all left the theater talking about a great time. After all, that is what I was looking for when I went to the movies that night...a good time and I found it in this movie. |
