For those of you that may not know it, the scene that Matt Damon watched at his office of an old man, far right, leading a small group in song, it was actual footage of the great John D Rockefeller, Sr.
In this lies the premise, that it was all started by Rockefeller, one of the architects of our industrial age, perhaps the most important. He was singing an old Baptist tune. He owned Standard Oil, and was masterful at integtrating our gov, his business and his religion into one big company. It had never been done before, and the question of monopolies looms as to whether or not it is in our national best interests. It was then, I believe. It is an open question now, certainly.
It does make the US Government do drastic things for oil, or the control thereof, that is for sure. |
