As one who loves Samuel L. Jackson and Juliane Moore, I had high hopes for this movie. Watching the previews helped to spark my interest even more. Then came the actual viewing and wow. Moore is horribly misscast as a drug-addicted washout of a mother (where's Tara Reid?) and Jackson plays the same character that he always does, almost paroding himself. William Forsythe helps to save some of the movie but isn't in it enough, the same goes with Edie Falco. The story is about a mother who loses her son in a black neighborhood and the racial wars ignite, at least it's in New Jersey and not LA. When the police close down the streets, outrage begins and it all leads to the climax which is decent although not spectacular. Freedomland may thrill you but there is also a good chance you will leave disappointed. |
