Hollywood Almost Ruined A Great Love Story

Make no mistake, "Walk the Line" is an entertaining movie and a great one to take a date to; Johnny Cash's life, like most fully-lived lives, is too great to splash on the simple canvas (s.p.?) of a motion picture. These folks do a pretty good job. Mr. Phoenix is OK as Johnny, but I think Reese Witherspoon steals this show as the talented and funny June Carter Cash.
Here's my ONE BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS MOVIE:
Why does Hollywood ALWAYS INSIST on attacking the father? Johnny Cash got along with his father just fine. He says so in his autobiography. Yet, Hollywood, the ever champion of cultural marxism, insists on painting a picture of Cash's father as a racist, judgemental father, as fathers are ALWAYS depicted in these sorts of pictures. I'm sick of it. It's not true and it just furthers this society's illusion that we can blame all our difficulties as adults on our fathers. Most fathers (like Ray Cash) work very hard and are loyal to their families. I wish Hollywood would stop trying to pry apart the traditional family unit and tell stories that don't rely on this tired old-- and socially dangerous-- formula. |
