Walk the Line stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon as the legendary Johnny Cash and June Carter. I never really knew of Johnny Cash until he was nominated for an MTV music video award for that Hurt song.. and when I heard of them I just thought he was some random old guy who didnt know when to retire. I later found that he was a legend, but it wasn't until I saw this movie that I built a new respect and knowledge for him.

The film mostly centres around the relationship between Johnny and June, and Johnny's drug addiction. This really takes up the whole movie. The film also briefly touched upon Johnny's Folson Prison concert, his childhood and the relationship he has with his father. In the story department, the film was lacking. I would've liked to see more of Johnny as a father, and I would've liked to see how he hit rock bottom, and his rise to stardom, but in that sense the film fails to deliver. It mainly centres around June and Johnny, and in an odd way, its also how the movie suceeds.

This movie is such a powerhouse becuase of the strong and undeniable performances and chemistry between Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix. Reese Witherspoon totally blew me out of the water. Her perfmance brings the film to life, and is one of the reasons why it has achieved such sensational status. Joaquin Phoenix does to a great performance as Cash, and he truly communicates with us the pain and heartache, and the love and joy he goes through. I think however, that he is overshadowed by Witherspoon.

So too sum this all up, what can I say? Walk the Line is a beautiful and captivating movie with two of the best on-screen performances I've seen in a long time. So, if you want to see a well-made and finely acted movie then this is for you. But, if you wanna see a movie about Johnny Cash's life and learn more about him and his pains and struggles and how he achieved his high persona and what he sacrificed to get it, you may be somewhat dissapointed.

9/10
