This has got to be one of the best horror movies ever put to screen! For many reasons!
One, the scenery was just fantastic. It gave a real sense of isolation, and in some areas in the movie, it was scary just to look at the scenery, because of the sheer loneliness it showed when the car drove along the dirt road.
Second, although the acting from the support cast wasnt crash hot, although a lot better then most horror movies, the performance delivered by John Jarratt, who played Mick Taylor the villian, was simply brilliant. It will go down as stuff of legends in cinema. A truly horrofic man who starts off as being a gentle funny guy.
The direction of this film was amazing too! We start off by a slow story, about two people in their early twenties going on a trip through the top end of Australia. Then their car breaks down. Then they are helped by what seems to be a friendly man. I wont go on, because im sure people who havent seen it dont want it spoiled. Anyway, this movie goes AGAINST all horror cliches. Which is a huge breath of fresh air. In some scenes you are waiting for the obvious horror movie thing to happen, and it doesnt happen, then you expect nothing to happen it happens! Truly awesome!
Believe the hype. This movie, although not overly violent, is very disturbing. Very realistic violence, and its certainly not for the weak of heart!
All the people who criticise this movie are the people who have the attention span of a 5 year old boy who wants explosions. This is my problem. We have all seen ridiculous no brainer horror movies Hollywood has dished out to us, that when we see a real horror movie, we rub it off as rubbish! Which is not fair...this is a very real and scary horror movie. Its a story about three people who run into a bad man. Do we need anymore twists then that?? For anyone who wants more action, go to the juvenile Friday the 13th or better still have a ball over crap such as Hostel, which unforgivably gets better reviews then this movie. Anyway leave these grown up horror movies for people who appreciate them!
The best Australian movie ever to be produced, and one of the best horror/thriller movies of all time!!! A MUST SEE!!! |
