There are certain elements to create a successful horror film. One of these elements is the creation of suspense in the beginning, as well as a sense of direction and a plot. This movie failed miserably in both areas. For the first *HOUR* of this so called "horror" flick, the audience is tortured by a detailed tour of a trio's trek through the sandy outback of Austrailia--peppered with idiotic high school style sentimism and romance between two of the main characters, juvenile jokes and story telling, excessive filming of a crater in a desert, and pointless other occasions within the trip that seemed to have nothing to do with the plot. I literally fell asleep in the theater after 45 mins, and I'm not even close to kidding...it was almost as if I had paid $7 to watch the Discovery Channel.

In the final 25 mins of the movie (the part in which you've seen in the trailor commercials), they meet a crazed psychopath out in the middle of nowhere who, more or less, decides to unleash a bloody arsenal of sadistic attacks and torture on them for no logical reason. My guess is that whoever wrote this joke of a film had seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre and attempted to emulate a psychotic scenario of his own. While most of it was pretty chilling, the element that subtracted most from the redemption of this attempt at a horror film was that this villain was far too invincible--almost omnipotent. Who on this planet could take a rifle shot to the throat along with several blows to the back from the rifle butt--and then minutes later get up without hardly leaking any blood at all and come back for more action? How is it possible for one victim to escape, trudge for hours upon hours in the night through the desert going in God knows what direction, and in the morning BAM!--the villain coincidentally finds her right out in the middle of nowhere at just the right time? Realism is a key element in every movie that is not a fantasy, and this movie lacks in that as well.

The movie abruptly ends when the final of the trio escapes and finds rescue--and of course, the villain is never found. The End. Give me a break.

This was an utter waste of $7 and a 98 mins of my time. If you want some TRUE terror and suspense with actual effort and time put into the theme and plot, watch Saw 2. This movie is only a sad attempt to replicate a previous horror flick already released.
