Wolf Creek is not for kids

Don't believe the poor reviews you read here.
Not if you're an adult with half-an-educated-brain, that is.

Wolf Creek is certainly up there as one of the great horror/suspense flicks, and like all great stories it operates at more than one level.

Most of the poor reviews I've read are clearly written by people who don't understand the film, and therefore attack it.
You can believe them, or believe me, but either way, Wolf Creek is definitely NOT a movie for people with low attention-spans.

The start of the movie is quite slow - for a REASON (a couple actually).

The director is introducing you to the 5th main character of the story - the Australian outback - a character as unforgiving, unmoving & unsympathetic as the human villain, and who's omniscient presence will influence the characters actions and decisions throughout the movie.

As an Aussie who's worked on minesites in the outback of Western Australia, the so-called 'boring' part is actually an acurate reflection of journeying into the Oz outback - it lulls you in with it's vast beauty, gradually stripping away the security of the civilised world, leaving you - and our unprepared characters - isolated, vulnerable and exposed.

If you've never been there, the sheer scale of the outback cannot be described adequately with a flippant, sweeping pan shot.

You really do drive, and drive, and drive for days without seeing anyone / anything.

And once in it you cannot escape it.

The director uses this time to introduce the characters to us in a believable way - no gratuitous conversation, clever one-liners or puns. Only enough dialog for you to identify with them as just ordinary young people - they could be you, or someone you know.

This is archtypal (if not a bit stereo-typical)Aussie movie-making : the absence of unnecessary chatter, heavy use of scenery and a dry, almost laconic sense of irony and wit.

Combine all this with a ruthless and sadistic killer, and you have one hell of a gut-wrenchingly believable horror film.

So if you don't have a short attention span, and you love a good horror film, Go see it or rent it out, but allow yourself to be lulled into it, as if you were undertaking your very own adventure of a lifetime across our vast Australian outback.

You won't be disapointed.
