Murderball is an uplifting documentary on the history and struggles surrounding wheelchair rugby. The movie focuses on both the US wheelchair team's struggle to win Olympic gold, and the individual characters on the roster.
With an uncanny sense of pacing, the film creates several endearing and compelling portraits. Each team member offers candid details surrounding their daily life and the value they find in rugby.
Murderball emphasizes that wheelchair rugby gives its participants a form of empowerment. The sport helps diminish the handicaps they experience in other areas of their life. With the game, they have a form of physical freedom.
Audiences should expect to be rewarded with entertainment and hope at the end of Murderball. The film never drags providing a rotating mix of drama, humor and heart. |
