Ambitious and Complex

I think this film did a great job of tackling the subject matter, while still remaining at least reasonably unbiased (unlike Moore's films). The characters were presented as complex figures, meaning that the storytellers tried to look at them as tragic human figures rather than outright villains. There was a pretty clear liberal bent, however, with Gray Davis getting off really easy and George W. Bush getting blasted. I thought the style of the documentary borrowed from others (like Thin Blue Line and Farenheit 911), but it wasn't overly derivative. With the Enron trials coming up, I think this is a very important educational piece for those who want to be up-to-speed on current events. More importantly, I think it teaches everyone lessons about the American culture of greed, the failure to question authority in large organizations, the rationalizations people create to further their actions, and the extent people will go to in covering up past misdeeds. I will think about this film for a long time.
