As one interviewed ex-Enron employee said toward the end of this chilling indictment of human greed and arrogance run wild, what about the Lawyers, Accountants and Banks that could have simply said "No" but didn't? No doubt, Lay and Skilling engineered a corporate culture intent on debasing every purpose of markets and commerce, but NONE of the normal checks and balances that could and should have severely limited their ability to create as big a mess as Enron ultimately became even thought to say, "Wait a minute, this makes no sense!" And all because they didn't want to be left out of their share of the pie too. Lots of people who should be in jail today (or in the near future) aren't and, unfortunately, never will. The biggest lesson of the movie and the last five years remains: If it sounds too good to be true it IS! It was a sickening movie that everyone in corporate life should see because every corporation has the potential to become another Enron with the right mix of greedy unscrupulous leaders, loyal and aggressive employees and NO sense of public responsibility or morality. Tell me you've never heard your CEO say some of the things Skilling and Lay said and I'll call you a liar. The question is what separates them? |
