I read the book when it first came out and loved it, so I was somewhat apprehensive about the movie. But, I loved the movie, too. I worked in Ukraine for three years after college, and I can say from experience that a lot of what happened in the movie, from the odd English, to the modes of transportation, to the food/cook, etc., either happened to me or to someone I knew. It may seem unbelievable, but most of it is true and may seem strange through an American's eyes. The story is touching, well thought out, and, overall, excellent. I highly recommend this movie—and this is the first time I have said that in the last 5 years. |
