My daughter and I are big fans of Nightmare Before Christmas, so we had some big-time expectations heading into this film...and we were not disappointed in the slightest. My 11-yr old and her friend laughed throughout and I couldn't help but grin and join in. The story is a bit more mature than Nightmare, but still a wonderful Burton-esque mix of dark, quirky, and funny with just the right amount of sweet sentimentality. Certain moments do bring back memories of Nightmare, but in their own new and fun story. The animation is a truly enjoyable glimpse into Burton's one of a kind imagination. And the acting, or at least voice characterizations, are a superb collection of talent starting at the top with Depp (who I liked much better in this film than Charlie...) and Helena Bohnam Carter. I can only imagine how much fun they had collaborating on this project and how proud they are of the final product. This is a truly wonderful quirky and fun film for kids and grown-ups (or bigger kids if you will). |
