Corpse Bride should keep its target audience entertained, with outstanding animation and rich art direction. The musical numbers are especially entertaining. My few qualms are with the story. A character is unneccessarily introduced at the beginning of the movie who telegraphs the entire plot shortly after his introduction. I cannot understand what his point was so early in the movie, as he was very out of place until he took a more central role in the story. I also find it hard to believe that someone who was being forced into marrying someone he had only met a few hours earlier could be so attached to the girl to make him incredibly distraught about losing her. This point is addressed briefly in the story, but it remains a small criticism of mine.
Those are the two storypoints that really stick out in my mind. After you suspend them, the movie becomes quite enjoyable, bringing all the vivacity and creativity you'd expect from a Burton film. |
