Excellent Acting, But So What
by Phillip (movies profile)
Jul 6, 2007
This film doesn't seem to be made for film-goers but instead for film schools and acting workshops. Nine different snippets/vignettes of people's lives, that sort of join together in the most periphereal way, form this movie. Considering that each life section is only on screem for about twenty minutes, we know very little about the characters going into each new life, and we know very little about each character once their part is over. The acting is phenomenal, and Holly Hunter and Robin Wright Penn steal the scrren when their on camera, but in the end there really is no point to this movie. Yes, a person could take the time to analyze each section of the film and think of pithy things to say about how the film forms a homogenous body of work, but it's just not worth the time to examine nine depressing middle-class American lives. |
