Going in to this movie I honestly did not expect much from "The Matador", hollywood's second film so far this year about assassins, after Munich. However this movie suddenly hooks you into a captivating story in which Pierce Brosnan plays an experienced assassin going thru some difficulties with his lifestyle. He meets a struggling, salesman,(Kinnear), and the two begin an unusual friendship that will have your sides hurting from all the laughter.
I won't go into specific details because it would ruin the many surprises and plot twists in store for moviegoers. But one thing you will appreciate is that the story is so unpredicatable, yet expertly crafted as to not insult your intelligence with an unrealistic outcome. As far as the acting goes, this is by far Brosnan and Kinnear's best performance of their careers. The camera work was excellent, great lighting, superb color and no annoying, jittery camera shots. The editing was wonderful, the momentum of the movie never got stale. The dialogue was probably the best part of the film, not only did it develop a connection with the characters and the audience, but it made us die laughing, with moviegoers quoting the memorable lines from the movie.
Much funnier and overall better acting than "The Whole Nine Yards", and I dare say it's the best movie about hitmen, ever. My only gripe is that it's not longer, at only 1 hr. 37 minutes, but I guess that's why the film never got tiresome. Go see The Matador, you won't regret it. |
