If you want to see a movie that can touch you in a not so obvious way see The Squid and the Whale. Fantastic acting and subtle but powerful story line mixed with just the right amount of comedy make for a film that can change the way you look your own life and family. Laura Linney is as brilliant as ever and both of the young men that play the children come off as refreshingly authentic in an absurdly satirical kind of way. It might be useful to know though, that the squid and the whale is an exzibit at the museum of natural history in new york. On the description of the model in the museum, it says that the giant squid has never been seen before. Scientists only know about it from the scars it leaves on some whales faces and pieces of it in the stomaches of whales found washed ashore. Keep that in mind as you watch the film and it will hopefully add a deeper layer to it. All in all, giant squid or not, it is an important movie. |
