This is a painfully real "drama-dy" with characters so subtly tortured by the evolving reality of the parents' divorce, they nearly veer into caricatures. True comic relief is brought by Daniel's character, Bernard, whose self-absorption and Tourette's-like outbursts bring knowing chuckles, and by Baldwin's tennis pro, Ivan, who should be caned for his abuse of the expression "m'brother". It was unfortunate that Linney's Joan could not have been explored a little more, but it becomes clear that this is a son's tale of conflict with his father.
Solid acting makes this film a worthwhile experience. |
