I'm a little tired of reaading all these reviews that discribe this movie as child abuse and that the director should be arrested as a sexual predator! Please!! Yes, this moving is disturbing on many levels but often times, so is life. Just as sometimes it is interjected with unexpected humor. I have to admit that were times during this movie where I thought, "I wonder how the director handled working with very young actors, requiring them to say things and behave in ways that are disfunctional to say the least." I suppose one answer would be to only hire adult actors to protray teenagers or to never discuss such subjects in the first place. Believe it or not, the movie industry has a very harsh and stringent policy on what we would consider "child abuse". Having children and teenagers act in scenes which are risque, is hardly child abuse. That's why it's called acting people! Let's stop focusing on only one small aspect of this movie.
If it disturbs, enlightens and makes you think long after the ending credits, in my opinion, that's a great movie. Are we supposed to "like" all these characters? No, of course not. But we can sympathize nonetheless. Sometimes life is confusing, frustrating and magical all at once.
If you want mindless entertainment in your movies, go see Fantastic Four; if you want to be challenged and provoked, go see THIS movie. Let's all get off out politically correct soapboxes! |
