The last movie featuring characters names Jack and Rose broke just or tied just about every movie record there is. The most expensive movie ever, Titanic also became the biggest grossing movie ever by more thean 20%. It also tied the record for most Academy Award nominations and wins. Frankly, The Ballad of Jack and Rose is the complete opposite of Titanic.
An indie film in every sense of the term, The Ballad of Jack and Rose is a low budget, slow-moving, small in scope, character study. This can lead to giant a bore, but The Ballad of Jack and Rose keeps us interested in the characters so we can survive the slower moments.
Jack (Daniel Day-Lewis) started a commune 14 years ago, but now lives alone in an area with only his daughter Rose . However, he is dying so he invites his part-time girlfriend Kathleen to live with along with her two sons hate the isolation.
The acting is first rate. There isn't abad performance to be found, but ay-Lewis turns in a performance only a tiny bit below Oscar-worthy.
While Rebecca Miller's The Ballad of Jack and Rose is not a great film, it is an interesting character study. If you like this type of movie dpn't miss the touching ending and great acting. |
