This movie is supposed to be about the life style that plebes have to face at the Naval Academy. However, the filmakers did not tell the story the way it should've been. Many of the scenes that take place in the movie would never happened at the Academy in real life. The upper classmen would never abuse you in the middle of the night, or make you eat everyone else's food if you get a question wrong during meal time. The Academy would never take in an applicant who did so poorly in high school, and would eventually tell the applicant to never apply there again. Most of all, the Academy would never tolerate some of the actions that the main character committed such as attacking his upperclassman midshipman. One wrong move like that, and the next day, you're walking through the gate with your stuff, handing the guard at the gate your discharge from the Academy. Not to mention the settings were completely off. I do understand that the Academy did not allow the filmmakers to shoot on site, so they were forced to make their own film sites. But for God's sake, the filmmakers didn't even make an effort to make their settings similar to the real campus. There is no large ship yard across the river, by the way it's called the Severn River. Tecumseh Court is supposed to be stone, not grass. A lot of the buildings they showed in the movie don't exist in real life. And there are so many other settings the filmmakers didn't do right. They need to take pictures of the campus, do research on the midshipmen way of life there, and they need to completely redo the entire movie from scratch. |
