What a trip Glory Road took me on! As I watched a young Don Haskins form his beliefs in humanity, regardless of color, race or upbringing, through a young, predominetly black basketball team, I was awestruck by Haskins' and the team's tenacity and drive to succeed. They fought segregation and desegregation issues of the 60's, while viewers gained a glimmer of the hardships that Haskins' and his team overcame to shine brightly as winners not only in basketball but life! Haskins and his young team have made a positive mark on history as well as become a bright light for "a small west Texas desert town, El Paso.
Glory Road is a movie that I would not hesitate to show or discuss in a history class for high school or college. The movie offers emotion of every type as the players emerge as young men with a positive mission in life - not just basketball. |
