A hilarious tale about a lovely woman, (Shirley MacLaine), pursued by the richest man in town. But, her heart goes to the man she will love, and riches are unimportant. More than that, it seems they are deadly! Yearning for a simple life of love and happiness, Shirley's character is destined to drive her chosen man to the pinnacle of success, there to fall to his death.
Dick Van Dyke is driven to heart failure; an anonymous clown, (Gene Kelly), becomes a martyred star; a hack of a painter, (Paul Newman) hoisted by his own petard; etc. The greatest humor is awaiting the method by which Shirley plants the seeds of destruction and the unique manner by which she, inadvertently becomes a most-unhappy widow.
Wonderful ending, it is well-worth the viewing. |
