I took my girlfriend to go see this movie last night for its opening. She had told me she was interested in seeing it so we decided to go check it out, since Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman are usually good actors. After reading the reviews of both critics and yahoo! movie reviewers alike, the only question that pops into my mind is, "Were we watching the same movie!?". This movie was horrible. The plot was ridiculous and unrealistic. The characters were cardboard cut outs. Sean Penn plays the cliche secret service agent whose wife was killed recently (even though this has no relevance to the plot or character development at all) while Kidman plays the pissed off political moralist. I almost fell asleep for the first hour, and when the climax finally hits, you just don't care. You don't care what happens to the characters and I was even hoping Kidman would be shot. All this raving about the script!? With lines like "Don't say stuff like that, you've got blood on your face." how is that even dialogue? Even the cinematography was lame (start with a blur, into a gradual focus). I would advise you not to see this movie, but from the looks of the reviews, people are so used to being forced mainstream overrated garbage like this that they've come to like it. Oh well. I'll stick to the good stuff. |
