Well, they broke a tradition, accordiong to which main characters are supposed to have sex or at least have a long, promising kiss, in the end of the movie... Probably that's because they both lost someone, and introducing some romance into the script could make it shallow and typical... In general, this movie presents a very good drama, and it's strong parts are mostly about conversations and actors performance than about action. There were parts with plenty of action and tension, but long conversations tended to break the pace. Almost every conversation felt like a bit too long, so the movie felt as a bit too long altogether, but it was saved by the good performances of Kidman and Penn. You don't feel bored, though sometimes you feel like - ok, let's move forward, I got your idea already... The script was a little unrealistic at times, but interesting. Anyway. It's a high quality movie, it should be seen more as a drama than a thriller, and, by the way, if you miss it in movie theatre, you can just as well see it on TV or DVD, it doesn't have any visual effects that MUST be seen on wide screen. Overally - it's good, seroiously. Recommended! |
