This movie tries too hard to be like its predecessor "Get Shorty." In fact, for much of the movie, it follows the same plot.

Speaking of "Get Shorty," this movie missed director Barry Sonnenfeld. And, what happened to Rene Russo's character? She wasn't even mentioned in this film. I guess the creators of "Be Cool" figured they could swap her for Uma Thurman, and we wouldn't care.

It has some funny scenes, and, for the most part, is entertaining. This was probably the Rock's best acting performance. That scene with him at the cowboy store was laugh out loud funny. Harvey Keitel and Cedric the Entertainer did fine in their supporting roles.

Vince Vaughn did a good job of being the annoying antagonist, so much so that you would laugh at him getting made fun of, beat up or even dying.

I would not recommend paying full price for this one. It tries too hard to copy the original but lacks it's originality and flair.

If you want to see "Be Cool," I suggest that you check it out at the $1 theater/discount theater near you. In the mean time, go rent or buy the far superior "Get Shorty."

Have a nice day.
