Watching "Coach Carter" was a pleasurable experience for me in that I like hip hop music, I value education and I have a love for the game. What I enjoyed most about it, is that it goes beyond the things that are mentioned above. "Coach Carter" touches and topics which are often times ignored in our communities. Since it was a factual event that took place, the plot begins to resonate before opposition to the Coach's decisions occur. The struggles that the basketball players were going through, are similarly illustrated in movies such as "Hoop Dreams" and Wesley Snipe's "Hardwood Dream" (though "Coach Carter" is not a documentary). In the end, the team and yours truly feel triumphant for their terrific winning record (compared to last season's) and more importantly, their academic accomplishments. I don't want to give the movie away, but Mr. Carter was a man who went up against numerous odds and came out a hero. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who feels that they can't change whatever situation may be daunting them in life. This movie has really made its mark. |
