Stellar, suspenseful and moving - CLASSIC!

This is my favourite movie ever.
It is geniunely suspenseful and yet so very emotionally touching.
Story of two cops - one who is actually an evil mole and one who is working undercover in the triads (the Hong Kong mafia.) One night is found out that both sides have a mole within them, and so the rest of the movie is a race to find out who the other is before he himself is found out. It is a study of whether one should be moral or bad.
The acting in this movie is ridiculously amazingly perfect. Tony Leung, Andy Lau, Anthony Wong and Eric Tsang capture the essence of their characters, writhing my heart out its rib cage and breaking it to pieces.
The music is very effective, and the cinematography is beautiful. The plot, though with the most few and minor of plot holes, is very well crafted and full of sweet tension.
The characters are sufficiently developped, and so you get a great connection to them.
I cannot see Martin Scorsese topping this movie. Infernal Affairs is amazing, near perfect.
The American trailer as well as the cover of the DVD is very misleading. There is no curvaceous woman with a gun, there is no prior friendship between the two protagonists. All this is a marketing ploy. If you want a nice cover, order the HK version. The movie is much more than a generic triad movie: it's a classic. |
