The remake of the "Amityville" is as good as any jumpy horror flicks get these days. Much of the time, you'll be spending clenching your fist in cold sweat from all the creepy imagery and sound effects thrown at you. Special effects and great timing can do wonders to scare you off your seat as Michael Bay's style is evident just like in his remake of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
With that being said, "Amityville" is not the best horror flick out there by far. You get a sense you're watching parts & ideas from other movies out there such as "The Others", "Exorcist", and "The Sixth Sense". The scary moments don't necessarily tie into the plot/storyline all the time as well. Sometimes it feels the imagery are there just for the sake of having them. The acting is fair, stranget that Ryan Reynolds spends half the time with his shirt off despite saying he's cold...
Overall, if you're looking for an edge of the seat horror experience, "Amityville" isn't a bad choice. Take it for what it is... a Hollywood twist on a movie based on a true story. |
