I liked this movie more than CTHD and Hero. Here are some comparisons.
The cinematography is as good as CTHD and Hero. Scenes show cased Jiu Zai Gou. Viewing angles are often novel and exciting.
The special effect is way better than the previous two martial art epics. It looks just like a big Hollywood production, but on Martial art subject instead of Scifi.
The color is richer and more complex than Hero, combining a strong grain of Chinese triditional images and impressionistic blending of colors.
The story line is simpler but with surprises. The subject of the story is more universal than Hero. It's about love and betral. Opposite to NY Times review, the story is moving, at least for a martial art movie. My roommate cried at the end, and I walked away silently.
Ziyi Zhang is beautiful, cool, and sexy as Mei in the brothel, even if you are only interested in men. Of course, Chengwu Jin is looking his most handsome. Acting are good for martial art movie standard.
I really like this movie. You have to watch it and make your own judgement. |
