Imaginary Heroes - Amazing Film!

I saw the film at the Angelika (in NYC) and was blown away.

WOW, what a flick!

Powerful, intense, multilayered, "feel good"...And I'm a miserable 32-year old.

It's my understanding that the director (and writer) Dan Harris is only 24 or something (I still need to talk to my shrink to see how a 24 year old gets into a 32 year old head but he did it.)

But first - Full Disclosure:

I didn't want to see this movie today. As a matter of fact, I was dragged there by my neice(who actually believes that she's going to marry Emile Hirsch-the star of the movie; now it's a tie with Ryan Donowho, the co-star).

Yea, I didn't want to see it. But as soon as the movie started I really got into it. I think Dan Harris (the guy who wrote X-Men 2 and is writing the New Superman Movie) took me back to a place when I was a teenager living in a time of drama. No joke - you may connect the same way.

But more impressively is that, although the subject matter was intense, the movie actually left me feeling pretty good.

Imagine that. An uptight, miserable, workaholic New Yorker who hates to freeze his butt off in the winter time here actually left the theatre feeling as good as a native of Miami Beach.

Yea, I'm happy I saw it.

Also--for those among us who only go to the Angelika to experience true "Stalinslavisky," here's something for you:

1. Sigourney Weaver was extraordinary and multilayered. For those of us who actually went to see Aliens in the theatre, this is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Academy Award material (that's probably why the movie was released one week before the new year).

2. I could say the same for Jeff Daniels, who showed the most dramatic side of his range that
I've ever seen. Very impressive...as a matter of fact, the director brought out a range I haven't seen in years, if ever from him. Different cat altogether.

But what was most suprising to me was the acting of Emile Hirsch and Ryan Donowho.

Emile Hirsch is deep. This dude has a long career in front of him...my niece thinks he looks like Dicaprio, but I think that a comment like that doesn't do this dude's acting justice. I see more James Dean--SERIOUSLY DEEP---than anybody else.

As far as I'm concerned Ryan Donowho stole he show. It's probably because I've had enough time to erase the reality of my childhood and re-create it, but I know that in terms of "cool" this is the cat I used in my recreation. I can't wait to see what he does next.

Last but not least, Michelle Williams was great too.

If you enjoy this flick 1/2 as much as I did, you'll be pleased.
