I can see that this is a movie that will cause passionate reactions positive and negative. It is one of the most unusual and haunting movies you'll ever see, but you must give it a chance and let the movie draw you in and give you lessons. Don't be quick to think you understand it and don't draw any conclusions until you've thought it over a bit. Other than being tantalizing till the very end (and beyond!), it simmers with unspoken longing and, right below the surface, unspeakable, hideous violence. I don't want to write too much for fear of giving away anything. Suffice it to say that this ia a whole different kind of movie that, given the chance, will stay with you for a long, long time to come. I believe, too, that it is Nicole Kidman's most interesting role so far. The cast is uniformly great, and the direction superb and (black) magical! |
