Wonderful characters, original plot and
a nice feeling of humanity are the overriding
good points of "Spanglish".

The distantly narrated story of how a young
Mexican girl's like was affected when her mother
emmigrated from Mexico to the US and hooked up
with a rich American family with their own
problems.

Due to the Mexican mother's unique and strong
outlook on life, her daughter becomes a strong
student in America, and due to her connection
with the overbearing and falling apart mother
her talent is recognized, yet interpersonal
problems in both families ultimately take their
toll and the point of the movie is brought back
to focus in the end.

I really enjoyed "Spanglish". Just the unique
story and point of view of the narration, though
it was not perfect, and what I call unbalanced
in its "political correctness" it was a very
refreshing story. It is nice to see a movie
that within reasonable bounds portrays more
or less sane people interacting without starships
or machine guns, or magic rings or the
intervention of the supernatural.

I gave the movie an 8 out of 10, and would like
to have given it more, but I just do not think
it will become a classic, even though I loved
it.

The highlights are Paz Vega as the Mexican
Mom, Tea Leoni as the out of whack recently
fired but overacheiving neurotic American
wife, Cloris Leachman as Tia Leoni's isolated
mother, Shelby Bruce as the Mexican daughter,
Sarah Steele as Bernice the wonderful but
troubled daughter of the American family,
and Adam Sandler as the overly easy-going
father of the Ameican family, and 4-star
best chef in the country success story that
allows everyone else to live in the opulance
the movie exhibits.

"Spanglish" is a thinking feeling person's
comedy.
