I will start this review by saying that if you liked The Ring or found it scary, then there is a good chance that this film will do the same for you. The scares in this film are shot in a very similar manner and the visuals are every bit as creepy.
The Grudge works on many levels for me and it does what it is most meant to do: scare! It is a good old fashioned haunted house story with a "don't look in the attic" vibe that definitely raises the hair on the back of your neck.
The acting is fine and the storyline is decent. Sara Michelle Gellar plays the lead character who enters said haunted house and the fun begins. There are several overlaps in time shot during the film which can be a little bit confusing if you take too many bathroom or popcorn breaks but overall the flow of the story is pretty good.
There is nothing ground breaking about the film but it definitely manages to scare which is the whole point anyway. There are several terrifying scenes in the film and the last five minutes actually had me ready to cover my eyes.
A fantastic Halloween scare-fest with lots of creepy moments. Definitely worth seeing if you liked The Ring. |
