This is a wonderful story. A very heartfelt story about a lady (Gwyneth Paltrow) whose "genious" father just died and as she finds out who her daughter is, she finds out who she is. Her father (Anothony Hopkins) is a very intelligent mathematician. In his prime, early 20's, he wrote proofs for math that changed how people looked at eqations. He was a genious in his time but later in age developed a mental disorder. He was also a professor at a Chicago University. After his death, one of his students wants to go through all of the writings of his instructor to see what other possible things could be discovered. His daughter lets him. However, her sister who comes in from New York knows how her father's disorder has affected his work and her sister who took care of him. She wants to take her sister back to New York with her but she doesn't want to go.
The plot may seem a bit confusing, but really its not. It is genious and very touching. Each actor does a great job in their roll and with the likes of Paltrow, Hopkins, Davis (sister)and Gyllenhaal (his student), this cast shines. You have to see it to really be touched by its beautiful and believable story. It's "Proof" there are good movies out there! A- |
