I'm not Indian but I am a fan of Bollywood. If it weren't for my Indian friends, I would never have discovered the beauty and energy that is India. To the many critics out there, please don't take these movies and compare them to the multimillion dollar budget movies you see in Hollywood. Bollywood movies are made from the heart, not always from the pocket. Sure if Bollywood movies had the same budget, I could guarantee the ratings would be much higher than what you see right now.
Instead take it for what it is. And when you do, you will realize what a gem this movie is. The acting was enjoyable, the story interesting. Aishwaria lights up the screen, her piercing multihued eyes hypnotize you more than the "Cobra dance" could ever do. Sure there were some corny scenes, such as the gospel choir on the beach, or the singing lifeguards (these scenes should have been removed), but besides this, the movie was truly enjoyable. It may not be along the lines of Bend It Like Beckham, but it was close. Again, take the movie for what it is, a colorful lesson in the art of love, social and ethnic differences, the fact that Cupid could still cross the open seas and bring together lovers that no matter how much lies, misconceptions, or busy-body mothers stood in the way.
It's worth your time, just sit back and enjoy. |
