Bushies won't dispute the movie, which is great

Read a few of the bad reviews and you'll notice that the Bushies stay far, far away from disputing Moore's points. And for good reason, they're quite accurate.
And I'm not saying it's because Moore justifies all of his opinions in the movie that well, in fact, he does quite a bad job of it. He glosses over the background of each topic, resorting to a few sentences here and there, before unloading a harsh truth about Bush. And there are many. Moore jumps on Bush for the fraud of the 2000 election, the missing WMDs, the use of fear as a motivator, the plight of the underprivelaged in our military and much more. Though I like Moore's approach. By not spending too much time on each subject, the way PBS's Frontline would, Moore is able to address a lot of topics. He's probably also assuming the audience has been reading the news during the past 4 years.
Overall, I rate this movie as excellent because of Moore addresses so many important topics in one movie. He does tackles them head on, doesn't sugarcoat anything, and uses harsh language where it's deserved. This is a refreshing break from anything else on the big screen. I can't think of another movie that addresses any one of these topics in this manner.
If you're a liberal and hoping this movie will convert some conservatives, I think you'll be dissapointed. As I mentioned above, Moore does not do a great job of justifying his accusations. He jumps too quickly between topics (it reminds me of that show Connections), and he even, at one point, splices Bush's comments about Saddam and al-Qeada. It makes for great effect, but that was obviously not exactly what Bush said. Lastly, Moore includes so many 'low-blows' - clips of Bush looking stupid or saying something stupid - that he will turn conservatives off before turning them on to his message. Though if you're a liberal, you may find these funny. Personally, I had a hard time laughing at all in this movie. To know that Bush's ignorance and arrogance results in the death of men and woman, I just couldn't laugh during this movie, no matter how funny it was.
After the movie, my emotions ranged from pure anger (at Bush and his gang), to sympathy to the families of Iraqi victims (both here and abroad), the resolution (to do something about this election).
If many people see this movie and have the same reaction, this movie will have to be judged a monumental success by any definition of the word. |
