I've read many F graded reviews and I notice that most of them are posted by people who haven't actually seen the movie. There are four kinds of reviews i read repeated again and again:
- Mexicans complaining about how racist this movie is.
My answer: Go and see the movie and you'll find that this movie actually describes the discrimination latinos face in California.
- Nationals from other Latin American countries complaining about how this movie only portrays the mexican contribution and ignores the contribution otherpeople from Central and South America have brought to the US:
My answer: Go and see the movie and you'll see that the concept is actually including all of you guys and the title (a day without a mexican) is kind of a sarcasm suggesting some californians are lazy enough to call all inmigrant from those countries as just mexican, which constitutes a racist treatment.
- Americans complaining about this movie as contradictory, one sided and sterotypical.
My answer: Go and see the movie...
- Mexican and Latin Americans complaining about the jobs latinos have in the movie in contrast with the large community of latino professionals.
My answer: Professional latinos in fact are mentioned in the movie and they are important part of Latino Life in the US, but the story is not about them. (In fact, they also dissapeared!!)
You should leave prejudice at home before going to see this movie.
I think the idea is original. The political correct name would be "A day without Latinos in California", but as I mentioned above the title is a sarcasm and an important part of plot. |
