Princess Diaries 2 does exactly what most movie-watchers come for: it transports them into an enchanting world of fiction and romance and allows them to take a break from the stress of their own lives. While attending the movie i took a careful observation of those who had come to see it. walking in, many of these people were rushed and irritated by small things. i even saw a woman yelling at her daughter for being so slow. and yet as the movie entered and people exited, they were notably more relaxed and care-free. This movie, like any well acted drama, puts you into the cast almost and allows you to feel each characters emotions. entirely by coincidence, i happened to turn around at the part where mia leads the girls from the homeless shelter in the parade and saw that nearly all the people behind me had these gleeful, silly smiles on their face that they would probably only allow themselves to show in the darkness of the movie theater. The emotion is incredible and even i could hardly keep from smiling. Amovie like this does incredible wonders to a person's attitude.
The story, like many fairy tales, may be predictable but not to the point that it is a turn off. i myself dislike movies that reveal the entire plot and resolution from the get-go, but this movie had so many lovely surprises at every turn, that i could help but enjoy myself. I especially liked the parade scene.
As for the acting, i would nothign less than incredible. Princess Mia (anne hathaway) plays her part to LIFE and pulls the viewer in until they feel like they are part of her life too. Julie Andrews (the queen) was another character whose acting made her part magical. She is the exact type of charming, loving, pleasant ruler that every monarchy should have (if only *sigh*). The rest of the cast pulled off their parts so well that the movie really came together very nicely. The only chracter whom i found less than perfect was nicholas. i didnt like how he seemed so eager to become king in the beginning and then suddenly decides he doesnt want to. It all happened too quickly though i see what the writer was hitting at. And i guess i IS fiction and there is only so long a movie can take. Other characters i enjoyed intensly were the maids. They were really cute and the little children next to me were positively squealing with delight. just one thing though. i think there shoudl have been more of michael moscovitz in the movie. i know he was the hero of the 1st movie and u cant fall in love with someone twice in a series (it would make it so much less interesting) but really. hes my hero. haha
After all this, i still think the best part of the movie is the character of Princess Mia. She is just like any girl you would meet on a walk down the road and i love how she isnt changed by the fact that she has become royalty. She really is a role model to all young girls. And everyone knows, all little girls need role models. its not just that shes gorgeous. but her character is compassionate, excitable, loving, sensible, and dutiful all put together. Through her, people will learn what a truly good person is with out having to make up some kind of 'perfect person'
Overall, Princess Diaries 2 is an enchanting movie and i really encourage anyone and everyone to grab a popcorn and sit down to watch! Especially after a hard day at the office. forget going to the gym. Just giving up a couple hours of your time to watch this movie will mae you feel 20 pounds lighter. guaranteed. |
