After years of depressing and underwhelming films from Ireland, a new film arises from the ashes. "Dear Frankie" is a sincere and moving film that has heart and soul. The direction was thoughtful and patient. Some parts of the film were slow and lagging but for the most part it was engaging and engrossing.
Mortimer and Butler both did wonderful jobs with their characters and provided two very different emotional levels. Mortimer had a sweet and sad view of life while Butler comes in with a hard and somewhat detached emotional sense. They both gradually learn from each other and make each other better people.
It is a story about trusting and being willing to let other people into your life to change for the better. The film does a wonderful job at getting this message across without hitting the viewer over the head with it.
I really enjoyed it and would be able to recommend it to pretty much everyone who loves films. |
