Being a member of the TV Media...and a mom to two teenage daughters...I was delighted to cover the Arizona Premiere of "Dear Frankie" at the Sedona Film Festival, this past weekend.
I found it to be so compelling, I saw it twice...insuring my daughters got to finally see a film of human substance and clarity.
Here is a portion of my review:

"What a tender yet oh-so-powerful film....
(closing of eyes, slow nodding of head...visually recounting so many of those piercing celluloid moments in my "Mind's Eye")
A diminuitive, precious gem-stone..that movie...multi-faceted...brilliant in its reflections of the human spirit......delivered so quietly & serenely - but one of unfathomable depth...much like a swift-moving river whose surface is like mirrored-glass but for a few bulges (under which you know resides large boulders of emotion...collected over a span of years yet rounded & polished by the continual pounding of daily life..but remains unseen to the eye save for slight bulge, atop).
It was even better the second time round....so many little nuances first-missed!
Emily Mortimer and Gerard Butler played every one of those scenes with such control, such polish...under the deft, instinctual direction of First-timer Shona Auerbach & screenwriter Andrea Gibb...the cast seemed to be "corresponding shapes like Jigsaw puzzle-pieces made from clay" ..pre-destined to play those parts, one day.
And that they did....with superb skill!
How rarely we see this type of film being made/released in the U.S.
This makes obvious the importance this film has - in its need to be seen, by as many people as can be told about it. I can see why Emily Mortimer and Gerard Butler are doing everything in their power to spotlight its release, despite the studio's business-caused 6-month delay by Miramax.
We extend our thanks directly to the film's Director/Photographer and its screen-writer...for providing one of the most fitting vehicles for Gerard Butler... Emily Mortimer...and Sharon Small..to show off some of their finest work-to-date.
It seemed an especially appropriate exclamation point for Mr. Butler ...to follow the POTO, with this quiet, exquisite study...
As movie-goers, we can all ask ourselves this question - "Am I & my family feeling
de-sensitized by the Hollywood conveyor belt of over-wrought and under-written teenage dramas, horror movies will ever-overwhelming FX and shallow chick-flicks that slide off our shoulders like telfon?
Well, the anti-dote is to walk in a well-broken-in pair of more humble leather shoes...worn by people who truly care about what is deep in the heart of all of us....and hold up the mirror to show us, what is in ourselves.
Do yourself and your loved ones a favor...
See "Dear Frankie" and you'll start to lose a little of that teflon coating you've built up, starting to reveal what's really in your heart, today.
