When I initially saw the animation of Aeon Flux on MTV's Liquid TV when I was younger, I was immediately drawn into it~ the darkness of it, the silence [minimal spoken dialogue] Aeon's slinkiness, the mood of post-cold-war Russia with those clandestine train rides, combined w/ total futuristic coolness and a sense of impossibility given what our heroine was up against, and yet safety, because we always knew Aeon would kick ass. She'd eventually die [as she died in evey episode~ another cool trick to keep us hooked] but she'd put up a brilliant fight before she did.
Now on to the movie. One thing I find interesting by the reviews so far is that they are bothered by the glibness of the characters' seriousness, the mechanical delivery, etc... GOOD! that's what's supposed to happen! This isn't our world! What I really wish for is that nobody spoke at all, like the animation, while conveying everything they need to absolutely clearly. THAT would take some talent in acting & writing, which seems to be lacking these days. For what they've come up with so far, however, very nice job! Very clean & some of the darkness comes across. I'm not one for adapations, but this was well done. |
