I'd like to write this with the frame of mind of a fan of the animated version, but alas, that was so long ago that I don't remember it anymore. But at least I can still write this as a film fan. So here goes.
Go ahead and sleep through the first forty-five minutes. The first half is boring, tripe and uninteresting. There are some stupid "thrown-in-there for-the-hell-of-it" fight scenes with Aeon being eyebrow-raisingly superhuman. Dialogue is stilted and uninspired. It's just... blah.
However, once the plot is finally revealed halfway through the movie, it builds some steam and is somewhat engaging. It's actually a little enjoyable. Is it edge-of-your-seat gripping? No. Not by a long shot. It does have (many) faults.
None of the actors exactly stretch themselves, though it's not as though the script called for it. Everyone is constantly deadpan, trying to be super serious, and you can't help but be like "oh come on, somebody laugh or smile for pete's sake!" The over-seriousness gets old fast.
Also, the plot, while actually kind of awesome, is fairly underdeveloped. It would have been nice to have a little more information, but oh well. Action flick.
Overall, eh, it's ok. I wouldn't spend $10 on it. I wouldn't spend $5 on it. Maybe a few bucks at the cheap theater would be worth it in about a month. Otherwise... yeah, it's just another uninspired action flick. |
