If anyone ever saw the orginal Aeon Flux from MTV back in the 80's (in reruns now) then you would know that Trevor Goodchild was the bad guy. Trevor and Aeon had a love/hate relationship and that's what we loved about it, conflict, lots of it. In the live action version, they made Trevor the good guy so you feel good about him, you'll feel sorry for him. By changing their relationship, it changed the premise of the story. The entire movie was predictible, the orginal was not. It was surrealistic, odd, weird, strange. But that's what we liked about it. By trying to make this into a commercial success, hollywood has turned it into a commercial flop. I almost fell asleep and I'm a big fan. The whole thing sucked, the plot was the biggest disappointment, and then the characters.
Has anyone ever heard the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I don't think the writers, director, producer and the suits have. I guess that's why it took 20 years to bring it to the big screen.
If money was the issue, you should have hired Peter Chung to write the script, shoot the whole thing in digital with green screen, used lessor known actors and released it on dvd to make a profit while truly entertaining the fans worldwide. And you would have probably picked up more fans along the way not to mention the merchandising.
It's too bad because Aeon has been a fav of mine for years. I'm ready for the action now danger boy! |
