I liked this film. It was a about a topic, the fall of France 1940, from the French point of view, that one seldom sees on film. I liked that it was clear that heroism was in short supply and that most people were either worried only about themselves or were blatant cowards. Isabelle Adjani was good as the self-centered movie star. I was surprised that Gerard Depardieu would take such a small, unsympathetic role. I couldn't help notice that the lone American, Peter Coyote, played a Gestapo agent. I see some subtext here. |
